The MAX202E is a high-reliability RS-232 interface IC designed to convert TTL/CMOS logic levels to standard RS-232 voltage levels and vice versa. It integrates two line drivers and two line receivers, enabling full-duplex serial communication between microcontrollers, UARTs, and RS-232 compliant devices such as PCs and industrial equipment.

The device operates from a single 5 V power supply and uses an internal charge-pump voltage converter to generate the necessary positive and negative RS-232 voltages. The “E” version provides enhanced ESD protection, making it suitable for harsh industrial and commercial environments. The surface-mount (SMD) package allows compact and space-efficient PCB designs.
