16mm Reed Switch Sensor Magnetic Switch.
A Reed Switch (16mm Magnetic Sensor) is a compact electromechanical switch operated by a magnetic field. It consists of two ferromagnetic contacts (reeds) sealed inside a glass capsule (?16 mm length) filled with inert gas for protection.

- Working Principle:
- When a magnet is brought close, the reeds are magnetized and attract each other, closing the circuit (ON).
- When the magnet moves away, the reeds separate, breaking the circuit (OFF).
- Size: 16 mm length (smaller than the common 22 mm type, suitable for compact devices).
- Contact Forms: Available in Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), or Changeover (SPDT) versions.
- Electrical Rating: Typically supports 0.25–0.5A at up to 100–200V AC/DC depending on model.
- Durability: Millions of switching operations possible due to contactless magnetic actuation.
Applications
- Security Systems: Used as a door/window sensor in burglar alarms.
- Proximity Detection: Detects nearby magnetic fields in automation and robotics.
- Consumer Electronics: Used in mobile devices (flip covers, magnetic accessories).
- Industrial Equipment: Detects moving or rotating machine parts without physical contact.
- Automotive: Door open/close detection, seatbelt latch sensing, gear shift detection.
- Medical Devices: Non-contact position sensing for portable equipment.
- DIY / Hobby Projects: Widely used with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and microcontrollers for magnetic or proximity sensing.
