74HC160 Presettable synchronous BCD decade counter IC (74160) DIP 16 Package
The 74HC160 (also known as 74160) is a high-speed CMOS synchronous BCD (Binary-Coded Decimal) decade counter with presettable inputs. It counts from 0000 (0) to 1001 (9) and then resets to 0000, making it suitable for decimal counting applications.
This counter features synchronous clear, load, and enable controls, ensuring all flip-flops are triggered simultaneously by a common clock pulse, which eliminates timing skew typical in asynchronous counters.
The presettable feature allows the counter to be initialized to any desired number using the parallel data inputs (P0–P3) and load input (LOAD). The counter also includes carry output (CO) and ripple clock (RC) outputs for cascading multiple counters to form multi-digit or higher count systems.
Encased in a DIP-16 package, the 74HC160 is widely used in digital clocks, frequency dividers, event counters, and time measurement systems.
