74LS47 BCD to 7 Segment Decoder/Driver IC (7447) DIP 16 Package
The 74LS47 is a BCD (Binary-Coded Decimal) to 7-Segment Display Decoder/Driver IC from the Low Power Schottky TTL (74LS) logic family.
It converts a 4-bit binary-coded decimal input (0000–1001) into corresponding signals to drive a common anode 7-segment display.
The IC features open-collector outputs capable of sinking current to directly drive display segments through current-limiting resistors.
It also includes built-in lamp test, blanking, and ripple-blanking input/output controls for cascading multiple digits in multi-digit display systems.

Functional Description
- The BCD inputs (A–D) determine the numeral displayed.
- Open-collector outputs drive common anode LEDs through resistors.
- LT (Lamp Test), when pulled LOW, lights all segments.
- BI (Blanking Input) disables outputs (turns all LEDs off).
- RBI/RBO help blank leading zeros in multi-digit configurations.
Applications
- Digital clocks and timers
- Counter display units
- Scoreboards and calculators
- Numeric display systems
- Microcontroller numeric output
- Event counters and tachometers
