The MCP73831 is a highly integrated, linear charge management controller IC designed for single-cell Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Polymer batteries.

It provides the complete charging algorithm — constant-current / constant-voltage (CC/CV) — using a minimal number of external components. The device automatically controls the entire charging process, including preconditioning, fast-charge, and charge termination phases.

It features:

• Built-in pass transistor (no external MOSFET required)
• Integrated current sensing (no sense resistor needed)
• Reverse-discharge protection (prevents battery drain when input power is removed)
• Thermal regulation (reduces charge current when the IC temperature rises)
• Status output pin (STAT) for LED or microcontroller monitoring

The MCP73831 is available in a compact 5-lead SOT-23 surface-mount package, making it ideal for space-constrained portable products.
