The SM72295 is a highly-integrated gate-driver and sensing IC designed to drive four discrete N-MOSFETs arranged in a full-bridge (H-bridge) configuration.
Key internal features include:
- Two half-bridge driver channels (i.e., high-side + low-side) capable of providing up to 3 A peak gate drive current for fast switching.
- Integrated bootstrap diodes (rated up to ~100 V) for the high-side supply, and bootstrap supply voltage range up to ~115 V.
- Two independent current-sense amplifiers (transconductance amplifiers) with externally programmable gains, providing buffered outputs for external A/D or control logic.
- Programmable over-voltage protection, under-voltage lock-out with a “Power Good” (PGOOD) indicator output.
- Operating conditions: For instance, VCCA and VCCB (gate-drive rails) typically +8 V to +14 V, VDD (logic/analog rail) +3 V to +7 V, HS node (switch node) up to ~100 V.
- Renewable Energy Grade
- Dual Half Bridge MOSFET Drivers
- Integrated 100V bootstrap diodes
- Independent High and Low driver logic inputs
- Bootstrap supply voltage range up to 115V DC
- Two current sense amplifiers with externally programmable gain and buffered outputs
- Programmable over voltage protection
- Supply rail under-voltage lockouts with power good indicator
Benefits
- Integrates many functions (gate drivers for 4 MOSFETs, current sensing, protection, undervoltage/overvoltage) so you don’t have to build them from scratch.
- High peak gate-drive current capability helps switching performance of MOSFETs.
- Bootstrap diodes and high voltage ability (HS node up to ~100 V) make it suitable for many mid-to-high voltage applications.
- Built-in current sense amplifier outputs simplify monitoring of input/output currents.
- Protection features increase robustness.
Applications
Because of its feature set, the SM72295 is well suited for the following application types:
- Solar-photovoltaic related inverters / micro-inverters (hence the “Photovoltaic” in the name) — e.g., driving the MOSFET bridge of a DC-AC or DC-DC converter in solar systems.
- Full-bridge / H-bridge power converters: e.g., DC-DC converters, bidirectional converters, motor drive inverters (for moderate voltages) where discrete MOSFETs are used.
- Renewable-energy systems or other high voltage power electronics where you need high-side & low-side MOSFET gate drive, plus current sensing and protection in a compact package.
- Industrial power modules, battery/inverter systems, or any application where a full-bridge (4 MOSFETs) driver with built-in current-sense and protection would reduce component count.
