SN7407 (7407) Buffer Line Driver DIP 14 IC

The SN7407 is a Hex Buffer/Driver IC designed using TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) technology.
It contains six independent buffer/drivers with open-collector outputs, allowing them to interface with high-voltage or high-current loads.

Because of the open-collector configuration, the outputs can sink higher currents and can be connected to external pull-up resistors for driving devices like relays, lamps, LEDs, or other logic circuits that operate at different voltage levels.

The IC is commonly used for signal buffering, voltage level shifting, and current amplification in digital circuits.

Features:

  • IC Model: SN7407 / 7407
  • Type: Hex Buffer/Line Driver with Open-Collector Outputs
  • Number of Gates: 6 Independent Buffers
  • High-voltage and high-current drive capability
  • Logic Compatibility: TTL
  • Package: DIP-14 (Dual Inline Package)

Functional Description

  • Each buffer consists of a single TTL logic gate that amplifies and isolates signals.
  • Open-collector outputs require an external pull-up resistor (typically 1k?–10k?) to function correctly.
  • The output can sink current to ground but cannot source it — ideal for driving loads connected to higher voltages (up to 30V).
  • Commonly used for interfacing TTL circuits with LEDs, relays, or other ICs.

Applications

  • TTL-to-CMOS or high-voltage level shifting
  • LED, relay, or solenoid driver
  • Lamp drivers
  • Buffering and signal isolation
  • Interfacing TTL logic with high-voltage circuits (up to 30V)
  • Printer or motor interface circuits
  • Clock and signal distribution
  • Peripheral device control
