This USB 3.0 dual-bus architecture is both backward and forward compatible (USB 3.0 devise in a 2.0 port). The benefits of using USB 3.0 are reduced transmission times and power consumption. The USB 3.0 ports are characterized by their blue color and will physically accept 2.0 hardware despite having more pins.
