74LS05 Hex Inverters with Open Collector IC (7405) DIP 14 Package

The 74LS05 is a Hex Inverter IC—it contains six independent NOT gates (inverters) in one package.
Each gate inverts the logic state of its input, meaning:

• If the input is HIGH (1), the output is LOW (0)
• If the input is LOW (0), the output is HIGH (1)

However, unlike the standard 7404 inverter, the 74LS05 features open-collector outputs, allowing the outputs to sink current but not source it. This means external pull-up resistors are required to produce proper logic HIGH levels.

This open-collector configuration makes the IC ideal for driving LEDs, relays, lamps, or interfacing with higher voltage circuits.
