74LS14 Hex Schmitt Trigger Inverter IC (7414) DIP 14 Package
The 74LS14 is a Hex Schmitt Trigger Inverter IC from the 74LS TTL (Low Power Schottky) logic family.
It contains six independent inverters, each with Schmitt-trigger inputs that provide hysteresis — this means each gate converts slow, noisy, or analog input signals into clean, fast digital transitions.
The IC is widely used for waveform shaping, noise elimination, switch debouncing, and oscillator circuits.
It operates from a single +5V power supply and is fully TTL-compatible.

Functional Description
The Schmitt Trigger input introduces hysteresis — meaning the inverter has two switching thresholds:
- When input rises above VT+, the output switches LOW.
- When input falls below VT–, the output switches HIGH
This feature:
- Removes noise from analog or slowly changing input signals.
- Ensures stable digital transitions.
- Prevents multiple output switching (chattering).
Thus, it’s perfect for interfacing sensors, mechanical switches, and analog waveforms with digital logic circuits.
Applications
- Signal conditioning / waveform shaping
- Switch debouncing circuits
- Square wave oscillator / RC oscillator circuits
- Noise filtering and waveform cleaning
- Digital pulse edge shaping
- Sensor signal interfacing
- Clock pulse generation
