74LS93 5V 4 Bit Binary Counter 14 Pin DIP
The 74LS93 is a 4-bit binary ripple counter IC belonging to the 74LS TTL logic family.
It is capable of counting from 0 to 15 (binary 0000 to 1111) and can be configured for divide-by-2, divide-by-8, or divide-by-16 operations depending on the connections.
Internally, it consists of four JK flip-flops connected in a ripple arrangement.
The first flip-flop (A) is triggered by the input clock pulse, and each subsequent flip-flop toggles on the falling edge of the previous stage output.
The IC operates at +5V and provides TTL-compatible logic levels. It’s widely used in digital counters, timers, frequency dividers, and event counting circuits.

Functional Description
The 74LS93 consists of two sections:
- A divide-by-2 flip-flop (connected to
CLK A) - A divide-by-8 counter (connected to
CLK B)
By connecting output A to CLK B, the IC functions as a 4-bit divide-by-16 counter (0–15).
Otherwise, each section can operate independently.
Applications
- Frequency dividers
- Digital clocks and timers
- Event counting and pulse counting
- Time-delay generation
- Binary and decade counters
- LED sequence and light chasers
- Frequency measurement circuits
