CS5460A BS Single Phase Bi Directional Power/Energy IC SMD SSOP 24 Package
The CS5460A is a highly integrated energy / power metering IC, designed for single-phase (2- or 3-wire) systems. It features bi-directional energy measurement, meaning it can measure power flow in both directions (e.g. for regenerative systems). Combines two ΔΣ ADCs, a power calculation engine, and a serial digital interface. Includes on-chip functions: real energy, IRMS, VRMS, instantaneous power, and energy-to-pulse conversion. “Auto-Boot” mode: can read calibration data from a serial EEPROM and start measuring even without a microcontroller. Provides AC or DC system calibration support. On-chip 2.5 V reference (very stable, drift up to 60 ppm/°C). Low typical power consumption: < 12 mW.

Application
- The IC measures current (via a shunt resistor or current transformer) and voltage (via resistive divider or potential transformer), then digitizes them using its internal ΔΣ converters.
- It calculates real (true) power, energy, RMS current, RMS voltage, and generates a pulse output that’s proportional to the measured energy.
- The energy-to-pulse converter lets you drive a counter or stepper motor directly for “mechanical kWh meter” style energy tracking.
- Auto-boot mode: on power-up, the IC can load calibration from EEPROM, so you don’t necessarily need a microcontroller– this saves BOM cost and simplifies design.
- Useful for smart meters, sub-metering, power monitoring, and energy management systems
