MAX660 CMOS Monolithic Voltage Converter IC
The MAX660 is a high-performance CMOS voltage converter IC designed to generate a negative voltage or double the input voltage using simple external capacitors—no inductors required. Developed by Maxim Integrated, this IC functions as a charge pump that efficiently inverts, doubles, or splits the supply voltage for use in analog, digital, or mixed-signal systems.
With its low power consumption, high efficiency, and wide input voltage range, the MAX660 is ideal for battery-powered and portable applications that require voltage conversion without bulky magnetic components.
The MAX660 uses charge pump capacitor switching technology to transfer charge between capacitors, effectively inverting or doubling the input voltage.
- When configured as a voltage inverter, it generates an output of –Vin.
- When configured as a voltage doubler, it produces +2Vin.
Its internal oscillator drives the charge pump operation, and external capacitors determine the performance characteristics. The device also includes a shutdown pin to reduce current draw to less than 1 µA in standby mode, extending battery life in portable systems.
