The Sharp PC923 is a high-performance OPIC (Optical IC) photocoupler designed to provide reliable and fast electrical isolation between input and output circuits. Unlike traditional phototransistor optocouplers, the PC923 uses Sharp’s OPIC technology, which integrates a photodiode and amplifier circuitry on a single chip. This results in higher speed, better linearity, and superior noise immunity.
The device consists of an infrared LED on the input side, optically coupled to an integrated photodetector IC on the output side. This design enables high-speed digital signal transmission, typically with propagation delays far lower than standard optocouplers.
Housed in a DIP-8 package, the PC923 supports multiple output configurations depending on the PCB layout and internal pin usage, making it suitable for both signal isolation and logic-level interfacing. It provides high isolation voltage, low input forward current, and excellent performance in industrial and communication environments.
