74LS126 Quad 3 State Buffer IC (74126) DIP 14 Package
The 74LS126 is a Quad 3-State Buffer IC from the 74LS (Low Power Schottky TTL) logic family.
It contains four independent non-inverting buffer gates, each with a 3-state output controlled by an individual enable input.
Each output can be in one of three states:
- HIGH (logic 1)
- LOW (logic 0)
- High Impedance (Hi-Z)
The Output Enable (OE) input for each buffer is active HIGH, meaning the output is enabled when OE = HIGH and in Hi-Z (disconnected) when OE = LOW.
The 74LS126 is widely used in bus driver applications, signal buffering, and data line isolation where multiple devices share a common bus.

Functional Description
The 74LS126 provides buffering and isolation between different parts of a digital system.
When enabled, it acts as a non-inverting buffer (logic amplifier).
When disabled (OE = LOW), its output is disconnected from the circuit (Hi-Z), allowing multiple devices to safely share a common output or bus line.
This makes it ideal for bus-oriented systems, microprocessor interfaces, and data transfer control circuits.
Applications
- Bus Driver and Receiver Circuits
- Microprocessor Data Bus Control
- Signal Isolation and Buffering
- Logic Level Interface Between Devices
- Memory Address/Data Line Buffers
- Peripheral Device Interfaces
- Multiplexed or Bidirectional Bus Systems
