Description
MOC3083 Zero Cross Triac Driver Optoisolator IC

The MOC3083 is a zero-cross optoisolator triac driver IC used to safely interface low-voltage control circuits (Arduino, microcontrollers, PLCs) with high-voltage AC loads.
It contains an infrared LED input and a photosensitive triac output, providing strong galvanic isolation between the control side and AC mains.

The key feature of the MOC3083 is its zero-cross detection capability. This ensures that the triac is triggered only when the AC waveform crosses zero volts, minimizing:

  • Electrical noise (EMI/RFI)
  • Inrush current
  • Stress on the external triac and load
  • Electromagnetic interference

Compared to other models in the MOC308x family, the MOC3083 requires the lowest LED trigger current, making it easy to drive directly from microcontroller GPIO pins.
