74LS125 Quad Tri state Buffer IC (74125) DIP 14 Package
The 74LS125 is a Quad Tri-State Buffer IC from the 74LS (Low Power Schottky TTL) logic family.
It contains four independent buffer gates, each with a 3-state output:
- HIGH,
- LOW, or
- High Impedance (Hi-Z) state.
Each buffer has its own enable input (active LOW) that controls whether the output is connected to the circuit or isolated (high-impedance). This allows multiple outputs to share a common data bus without interference, making it ideal for bus-oriented applications, signal isolation, and interfacing logic levels.

Functional Description
Each buffer gate amplifies the input signal and provides isolation between input and output circuits.
The active LOW enable allows selective control of each output.
When disabled, the output enters a Hi-Z state, effectively removing it from the bus or load, allowing multiple devices to share the same line safely.
This makes the 74LS125 suitable for bus-oriented data transfer, signal buffering, and voltage level isolation.
Applications
- Bus Drivers and Receivers
- Data Bus Isolation in Microprocessor Systems
- Logic Level Shifting and Signal Buffering
- Memory Address/Data Line Buffering
- Peripheral Interface Circuits
- I/O Port Expansion
- Multiplexed Data Bus Systems
