74HC164 8-Bit Serial In/Parallel out Shift Register IC (74164) DIP 14 Package
The 74HC164 (or 74164) is an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register built using high-speed CMOS technology. It converts serial data input into parallel output, making it ideal for data storage, transfer, and display driving applications.
The IC features two serial data inputs (A and B) that are logically ORed together, allowing for easy data entry flexibility. Data is shifted into the register on the rising edge of the clock pulse and appears at the parallel outputs (Q0–Q7). The asynchronous master reset (MR) input clears all outputs to LOW regardless of the clock.
Encased in a DIP-14 package, the 74HC164 is commonly used for LED display drivers, data bus expansion, and serial-to-parallel data conversion in microcontroller and digital systems.
